Vactor Waste Decant Facility
The District's new covered vactor waste decant facility at the existing 580 Zone Tank site is nearing completion. This facility replaces the previously uncovered stockpile bays and is designed to enhance the handling and processing of wastewater and soil materials from vactor operations.

Key features of the project include:

-
A reinforced concrete decant bay with short walls and a premanufactured metal roof to facilitate separation and drying of solids.
-
A buried oil-water separator vault to enhance water clarification before discharge into the existing sanitary sewer system.
-
New sewer conveyance infrastructure, extending approximately 300 feet in the unimproved right-of-way south of the site, connecting to an existing manhole (MH C11-56).
Originally intended to process only materials from utility excavations, the facility's design was evaluated during the 30% design phase to determine the feasibility of incorporating wastewater containing sewage. This assessment influenced the final design approach. As the project nears completion, the facility will soon provide a more controlled and environmentally responsible solution for managing vactor waste.
