About Your Service

Safe. Reliable. Affordable.

Service Area

Coal Creek Utility District serves portions of the cities of Newcastle and Renton as well as a small portion of unincorporated King County.

Our service area is generally located between the cities of Renton and Bellevue, east of Lake Washington.

Our northern boundary is the City of Bellevue city limits (Southeast 69th Street), the southern boundary is the City of Renton and City of Newcastle city limits, on the west our boundary is defined by Lake Washington, and on the east by Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park.

Water Source

All water supply is obtained from Seattle Public Utilities (SPU), drawn from two sources:  the Cedar River and the South Fork of the Tolt River. These two river systems begin in the Cascade mountains and are surrounded by large protected watersheds that prohibit agricultural, industrial, recreational activities and human habitation.

About Your Water Service

Coal Creek Utility District's approximately 5.7 square mile water service area provides domestic potable water and fire protection service for over 3,600 customers.

Our system includes five water storage reservoirs for required standby, fire protection, and pressure equalization; four pump stations; and eighteen pressure reducing valves to deliver reliable, safe, and high quality water to customers in nine different water pressure zones.

Water Quality

Your drinking water is tested for over 200 compounds and additional contaminants. Tests are done before and after treatment and while your water is in the distribution system. The results of these tests are mailed out roughly 5 months after the end of the year in the form of a Water Quality / Consumer Confidence Report:

No Lead in Our Services Lines

More than a year of meticulous research, documentation, and inspections confirmed what Coal Creek Utility District long believed: no lead pipes were found in our water system, including service lines on our customers’ side of the meter.

In 2023, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Washington State Department of Health requested all water utilities to perform a Lead Service Line Inventory, with results submitted by October 16, 2024.

Although much of CCUD’s service area was constructed after regulations banned the installation of lead pipes, solder, and fittings, we still needed to investigate older service lines. Using our Geographical Information System (GIS), we compiled a complete inventory of all services, investigated those with unknown materials, and submitted our "no lead found" report to the EPA and Department of Health in October 2024.
