Where does our water come from?

All of the water currently provided by Coal Creek Utility District (CCUD) comes from the Cedar River through the City of Seattle Public Utilities (SPU). CCUD is what is called a "purveyor" because all of our water is procured for you from SPU's primary water lines.
The 90,495 acre Cedar River Watershed, primarily owned by SPU, is a protected watershed located in remote, unihabited areas of the Cascade Mountains. The watershed is closed to unauthorized access and an aggressive watershed protection plan is in operation. No agricultural, industrial or recreational activities are allowed there.

Chester Morse Lake is the main storage reservoir in the watershed.
